My heart might be ripping a little. I cannot even believe that my “baby” boy who has been watching from the sidelines since he was just 6 weeks old is now a full-fledged camper, ready to take on every adventure Knights Camp has in store!
You would think Christmas is coming…
I think a paper chain countdown is in order if I’m going to avoid answering the “How many more days??” question 427 times over the next week!
Among other things, Avery can’t wait for “the big celebration” (the King’s Banquet, on Friday night) with it’s live-action story, competitive games, and giant spread of meat, bread, and cheese which instantly raise the bar of expectation for the high-energy weekend to follow.
He’s also so excited about “finally” being able to do archery, “Because I’m seven, now!”
While Avery could probably make a mile-long list of all the things he loves about camp, here are the reasons I am excited for Knights Camp…
As a mom, I love that my son gets to experience independence, under the trustworthy care of experienced leaders. As much as I’d love to keep all of my babies huddled under my “wings” forever, I know that Camp will play a significant role in their path to becoming mature, independent adults. I remember, as a kid, how scary spending the night away from home was the first several times… but I also remember the amazing feeling of accomplishment (“I did it!”), afterward.
As a boy-mom, I love that Knights Camp reaches my son on his level. Knights Camp provides endless adventure- weaving mud, music, recreation, “God-moments”, and mentors to make up one unforgettable experience!
As a Christian mom, I love that Camp comes alongside my husband and I to partner with us in pointing our son towards Jesus. Maybe it’s being out in nature, or the incredible praise and worship, or the amazing teaching… but God just feels closer at Camp. Plus I know he’ll be around some amazing, godly leaders that he can look up to who will show, with their actions, what it means to live a life that honors God.
Camp has made such a huge impact on my husband and I—and now, our kids—and that’s why we’re fired up about Camp!
